History of MMM
In 1996 a group of Milford area ministers decided there was a need for support of local families in times of financial hardship. After several months of research and planning, Milford Miami Ministry (MMM) was created, with the purpose of aiding our neighbors with food and financial support in their time of need, acting as the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in our community.
A total of thirteen churches made up our original membership, each providing donations of food and financial contributions, as well as soliciting volunteers to do our work in the community. Our total church membership has since grown to nineteen.
Our initial service area consisted of the Milford Exempted Village School District but has since expanded to include all of Miami Township. We also provide assistance to anyone who lives outside our service area that is a member of one of our churches
MMM serves as a source of emergency assistance for rent, utilities, food, prescriptions, and some other emergency exceptions. The amount of financial assistance provided is determined by a combination of client need and funds available to MMM at the time of the request. Over the years we have expanded our mission to include holiday food and gift drives as well as collection of book bags and school supplies for needy children in the Milford Exempted Village School District.
From March 1996 until August 1998, MMM operated out of the Camp Dennison United Methodist Church in partnership with Inter-Parish Ministry, another similar ministry that operates in the Miami Township area. Due to increased need in the community and a lack of funding, MMM had to cease operation and the partnership with IPM was dissolved. On September 2, 1999 MMM began operations again, this time in partnership with the Clergy Community Action Assistance Network (C-CAN), operating out of the Milford Christian Church. By the year 2000, MMM was operating as a stand-alone operation and in April 2007 was granted its own 501(c)3 designation.
Today Milford Miami Ministry provides food to approximately 150 families per month, financial aid for rent and utilities for over 300 families annually, and in 2014 served 280 holiday meals and 1500 gifts to area children for Christmas.
